The ActiCert Food Handler Certification Course is approved and recognized by the Ministry of Health, Ontario, as well as the Ministry of Health, Alberta, and is accepted by all boards of health within these provinces. ActiCert Inc. is listed as a recognized provider for both in-class and online modules of the approved food handler training program.

Course Overview

This comprehensive training and certification program provides participants with in-depth knowledge of food safety and food handling practices. Upon successfully completing the required examination, participants earn the official Food Handler Certification. This mandatory certification is essential for entering or advancing in the food industry, enabling individuals to work confidently in key areas such as food storage, preparation, cooking, and serving, while ensuring compliance with food safety standards.

Instructors

The instructors are seasoned professionals from the food industry, fully qualified to deliver the standardized, ministry-approved food handler course content. They utilize a variety of instructional methods, including reference guides, online videos, interactive class activities, and assessments, to ensure candidates thoroughly understand and engage with the course material.

Language(s) of Instruction: The course and examination are conducted entirely in English.

Course Delivery Method

In-Class Instructor-led Sessions:

The course is held at various ActiCert venues across Ontario and Alberta. Candidates can select their preferred dates during registration. Sessions are scheduled from approximately 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, including time allocated for the examination. The fee for this module is CA$ 50.00.

Online Instructor-led Sessions:

The course is conducted online via Microsoft Teams, allowing candidates to participate from the comfort of their homes. Sessions run from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with a fee of CA$ 40.00.

The course format, duration, and process are consistent for both in-class and online sessions.

Self-Paced Video Training Course (available April 2025 onwards):

Candidates can register and purchase the online training module, which allows them to learn at their own pace. The course includes instructional videos, review questions, and a Final Examination to earn the certification. The fee for this module is CA$ 30.00.

Registration Process and Requirements

Registration: Candidates must register exclusively through this web portal. During registration, candidates are required to provide certain personal information, including a valid government-issued photo ID. Please review our Privacy Policy for detailed information on data handling and protection.
To complete registration, candidates must select an available course date, provide all required information, and choose their preferred mode of delivery before proceeding to payment.

Registration Pre-requisites:

  • No prior qualifications are required.
  • Candidates must be 18 years of age or older.

Payment:
Upon completing the registration form, candidates must pay online for their selected course session. An electronic receipt will be issued at the time of payment. Please refer to our Refund Policy for further details.

Examination Details:

The examination will be held at the conclusion of the instruction sessions. It is 50 minutes in duration and consists of 50 multiple-choice questions. A passing score of 35 out of 50 (70%) is required to pass. Successful candidates will receive a certificate immediately upon completion of the exam. The final certificate will be available for download via the e-learning portal where the final evaluation is conducted. Each candidate is permitted a maximum of two attempts to pass the examination.
